Strategic planning

CSU strategic planning undertakings
Strategic planning provides a means for all constituencies to be part of an open and iterative consultation process.  Two such undertakings have provided a realistic, feasible, and workable guide for the CSU system.  They articulate the values, priorities, commitments, and expectations, and advocate important ways the system and its faculty, staff, and students can pursue and implement these recommendations. Cornerstones was a strategic plan for the CSU adopted in 1999.  Access to Excellence is the successor strategic planning exercise, as approved by the CSU Board of Trustees in a 2006 resolution.  Both plans are available for review as links below.

Importance of knowledge of strategic plan
Familiarity with the overall process that the California State University system uses to focus priorities is critical to the work of faculty members in the CSU.  It ensures that the decisions made as faculty members plan courses and programs, set a research agenda, and serve the needs of the campus and system will be designed to move the major commitments of the CSU system in an effective direction in line with priorities of the institution.

Learn about the strategic plan
Whether a faculty member works at a CSU campus or any other, knowing the strategic planning process and resulting focus and direction of an institution makes individuals more effective in the campus community. New faculty members need to take the time and effort to discover the strategic history and current stance of their institution.
