CSU campus faculty resources

Array of campus resources
Individual campuses offer a number of resources for faculty. Take the time to locate, learn about, make a note of contact information for, and introduce yourself to the appropriate personnel when first arriving on campus.  It will save time, increase effectiveness, and help begin the process of becoming an integral part of the campus community from the beginning of your time on campus.

Student support
Some resources are available for faculty members to refer students for more help with coursework or personal issues that interrupt learning. Knowing about these services will help faculty support student learning whatever the challenge.  Establish relationships with these student services centers to best support your students when they need assistance.

Emergency response support
In spite of a desire to avoid emergencies on campus, faculty need to be ready to respond in case an incident occurs.  It is critical to determine what supports are before an incident, since once the emergency is underway time is often of the essence.  All campuses have a campus police service, there are procedures for evacuating buildings, campus lockdown, and response to injury or illness.  Learn about the procedures and be certain you know what to do in case of a variety of emergencies in order to save lives and keep students and colleagues safe.

Faculty training
Campuses offer a wide array of training for faculty members in areas such as teaching with technology, grant writing, computer applications, leadership opportunities, locating information, preparing the retention / tenure / promotion file, and activities in particular areas of study.  Many CSU campuses have a faculty development center which acts as a clearinghouse for such opportunities.  University extension, university development / foundation, human resources, and instructional technology divisions are other sources of potential trainings, and there are more to be found.  Make time to take advantage of these opportunities.  They are valuable ways to network with colleagues across campus, learn new skills, and foster future collaborations.
