Governmental agencies
Collaboration with governmental entities
City, county, state and federal agencies all offer opportunities for faculty members to collaborate and serve. The expertise universities offer intersects well with the public service nature of government. In addition to speaking to groups, offering workshops or courses, or being part of a panel focused on solving problems, faculty members may also be interested in serving on councils, boards, or even in elected governmental offices.
Dual roles at agencies and universities
Some faculty members have dual responsibilities and split their time between government agencies and a university campus. In these cases there are clear guidelines provided by campuses about what is appropriate and for what duration in order to fulfill expectations of a faculty appointment. New faculty members should check all campus documents carefully for expectations specific to their campus.
